With no resort development experience, Miami-based developer, Yntegra Group, is proposing to dredge over 240,000 cubic yards of protected marshland to create two marinas with entrances facing east into the Atlantic Ocean on a barrier island that will require miles of seabed dredging of recreational sandbars & seagrass
The depth of the proposed back of house dock location is 5 feet deep roughly 150 feet from the shore... and will require dredging through a 15 acre seagrass bed, and that is just the entrance
There is significant seagrass and coral reef in the area of the proposed supply dock location and access to proposed marinas will require ongoing dredging through recreational sandbars beloved by the community
Dredging and seawall installation will impact the major tidal flow on this point of the island, disrupting marine and underwater sand movement impacting at least two major beaches on neighboring properties
The proposed marina entrance faces east on a barrier island, exposed to wind and tidal action from the open sea, creating a truly hazardous situation for boats and staff.
Barrier island wind and sea forces will batter proposed residences located on a cliff that is regularly overcome with waves during even minor weather events
